The Thunder Support Group
Hello Everybuddy! This is our July 13th meeting and I know we are gonna have a lot to say, what with the Fourth of July excitement and all the storms around us. We are having a beaner of a storm tonight and I have been pretty shakey this whole long evening. It will be just great to hear from all you guys tomorrow.
As usual, we will have water bowls, and lots of treats out to enjoy if your tummy is feeling OK. If you like closets, we have three pretty good sized ones and you should just make yourself comfy.
We have a good write up for you and your pawrents to read. Have them check this out:
http://pets.webmd.com/dogs/features/dog-storm-phobia This is from WebMD and while it seems some of these have a lot of the same ideas, this one I thought had a pretty good one, about teaching your dog to calm with a lead. Me and my Mom are gonna try it!
My Mom had planned to write up all the names of the pups who have been here, but it is lightning so much tonight she wants to unplug the 'puter. Maybe tomorrow she can add those.
Whatever time you get here tomorrow, just use the comments and tell us how your July went. Of the ideas we have sent out, have any been of real help to you. If so, will you share it with the rest of the gang.?
So, see you in the morning and be strong and brave!
Your pal,
Stella
It is monsoon season here which means LOTS of storms so YoYoMa will be here for certain...but he will be late because the WDA must attend the first ever Paws To People public event...the My Dog and Me Health Fair. But momma promises to read the article over the weekend.
ReplyDeleteGood luck and good turn out on your first ever Paws to People event!
DeleteGive YoYoMa a big hug from all of us! One for your Mom too,
Stella
We will see you tomorrow. Have a super Saturday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Always looking forward to seeing you, Molly!

WE had 20 Days in a ROW with near Constant rain and STORMS... ONE even stole our electricals powers!!!! We are just Praying for a few days of SUN now... to dry thingys up... and hopefully case the thunder away!!
ReplyDeleteJust knowing that there are others like ME who are scared outta my furs when it thunders Helps ME... and knowing that I can come to YOU..Stella ... fur Support and a GOOD place to BE during the bad stuff... has made it BETTER. THANKS Stella THANKS
Frankie, we are proud of you for carrying on even though you have had all that rain and thunders, it is scary for sure. I don't like it a bit when it steals our powers, but we live close to the courthouse and the sheriff's office so it never stays away for very long!

We use the inside leash for Sophie. She knows it is safe. We have a dog bed right there with it, and a bowl of water. When it storms, she goes there FIRST, curls up in the bed with her head hidden, and waits. We leash her, I sit on the floor with her, and we wait and read. It is her 'settle' spot.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Stella! We are thinking of you and wishing Shado could help you calm, and you could help Shado!
Hi Brenda and Shado!
DeleteThanks for reporting on the inside leash method that was mentioned in this weeks handout http://pets.webmd.com/dogs/features/dog-storm-phobia We are gonna try it at my house and I bet it will work.
Cheers,
Stella
well, thelma and louise are gonna have nothing new to report this month. we've had NO rain!! so no thunderstorms. one day this week, there were dark clouds and a few rumbles, but NOTHING. mom was very disappointed.
ReplyDeletewe're pretty used to fireworks around here. all our neighbors buy tons of them (i swear, they use their entire dog food budget for one week's worth of booms!) and shoot them off all week long. as long as mom's here to let us inside, we ignore them and go right to sleep.
sorry, we have nothing to add to the meeting!
We are all just happy that you came!
DeleteCheers,
Stella
Thank goodness we're living on a National Wildlife Refuge this summer where fire works are not allowed. But last night's storm had me very upset. I couldn't sit still. I paced and paced and paced. My brand new Thundershirt maybe helped a little, but not much.
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling good this morning so I'll be having some of those snacks. :)
Emma
Hi Emma,
DeleteWe are not far from where you are, and got those wicked winds, thunder and lightning. My Mom has never been afraid of storms and she thought I might just learn from her not to fear, but so far no. I hoped the Thundershirt would help me too, but it really hasn't. Looks like today is gonna be another stormy day!
HElp yourself, Emma, and we are glad you came!
We had two nights this week without fireworks but they started again last night. We also had a very loud storm that lasted for six long hours. Mom has started putting blankets over our crates at night to make us feel safe. We hope it's ok that we brought Norma Jean and Sydney and Lola with us today. They're all feeling the loud noise stress too.
ReplyDeleteMorgan, Sebastian, Bailey and Mackenzie
Oh! Any pup who is feeling stressed over loud noise or thunder is more than welcome! Help yourselves to the treats!
ReplyDeleteI might like to get covered up like you guys, but we don't have AC, only fans and so if I lay by my Mom and stick my head in between the chairs, I feel pretty good. I got so scared last night, I cried a little. Then my Mom knows how serious I am and comforts me. That just helps sometimes. Hugs, Stella
hello stella its dennis the vizsla dog hay that luks like a verry sayf kloset all rite!!! hay maybe we need a viddyo game support groop too the other day dada had to stop playing sum zombie game on akkownt of mama sed the sownds wer mayking mer nervus and so now the wurld is probly overrun with zombies!!! ok bye
ReplyDeleteWe are in the middle of a HUGE storm (my puter is running on battery)... but, believe it or not, neither dog is scared. They're snuggled together on their bed, sound asleep. It's so odd that Shyla can handle these intense storms but is scared of much more mundane things.
ReplyDeleteWe have had more rain, a little thunder and just tonight, its cooling off somewhat.
ReplyDeleteThanks to all who came!
Stella
Great post. Not any rain here in Montreal, it is quite humid...and we are having a heat wave. The thunder support group cartoon made me smile. Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWe had an awful storm on the Friday night and poor YoYoMa was in misery. We tried Quinn's thundershirt on him (it did not work for Quinn). The shirt, come special cuddling on the bed, and a herbal Composure finally got our boy to stop shaking and finally, to sleep.
ReplyDeleteYour wish is our command. We posted photos of the Health Fair!
our Baby girl has her own bed in the back of the walkin closet, better known as her condo. when thunder comes she is there, even if it gets dark and looks like it will thunder she is there. we don't put food or water there, she gets upset, all she wants is her bed and blanket...
ReplyDeletei was so sorry to hear about you Thunder, he was a beautiful dog. my heart hurts for you in your loss.
It is almost warm enough for us to get thunderstorms in Aberdeen this week.....
ReplyDeleteToodle pip!
Bertie.
We doesn't get very many, although it does be HOT right now. i hope all you doggies freaking out at the moment feel better.
