Second Meeting of Thunder Support Group!

Good morning all you pups!  This is a meeting of the Thunder Support Group and all animals are invited that have a fear of stormy weather.  Help  yourself to water bowls and treats.  Use the comments to tell us your story or how it is going for you.

We have had a whole lot of very scary weather the last few weeks and please tell us all how you managed to get through it.

We had a bad one about a week ago, and my Mom was right here with me, and she is good to talk to me and pet me when its bad outside.  I admit I am not quite as scared as I used to be.  We have two big chairs side by side in the livingroom and I just stick my head in between them laying right down by my Mom who sits in one.  Its good being close to Mom and hiding my head so I don't hear the thunder so loud.

We are supposed to have a  storm tomorrow, so I guess some of you won't be able to come, you'll stay  home in your special place, maybe wear your thunder jackets or a snug tee shirt.  You know we are wishing you the best, don't you?

We have a special article for you to read to your parents written by a vet from Florida, Dr. Patty Khuly, called 10 Ways to Calm Dogs in a Thunderstorm. http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/life/lifestyle/pets/2010-06-10-vetviews11_ST_N.htm?POE=click-refer

Let us know if you find this helpful!

We wish you the Very Best and look forward to seeing you in July!

Your pal, Stella

  1. Hey Stella, what sort of treats are on offer at your support group? Can I come along? As a sort of preventative measure. I mean, we only get very feeble thunderstorms in Aberdeen, and those very rarely, but Gail tells me she's sure I would be very scared of the Minnesota or Oklahoma variety so surely I qualify to join the group?

  2. We are lucky at the moment no storms here. The worse is when they happen when we are on the park. Luckily it has only happened a few times and we try and rush home. Have a super Saturday.
    Best wishes Molly

  3. thelma here! we had a storm early one morning this week. LOTS of lightning! the DFW area logged 27,000 lightning bolts as it passed through! i did not like it, but stayed on the little blue bed next to mom's bed and hunkered down. it wasn't until my sister, louise, came in (she gets scared as the storm progresses) and riled EVERYONE else up. scooting on the carpeting, milling in everyone's faces, even scratching at mom's bed! oy! we were all glad when it passed (mom, too!)

OMD AND I am wearing my THUNDER SHIRT... It is so good to be with FURENDS or FAMILY when the THUNDER starts BOOMING.
I am sooooooo glad that you started this club fur us. I am tired of shaking and shivering and being miserable... ALONE..

  5. We have some strong t-storms coming in overnight so Phantom wants to apologize for not coming today. He is camped out in his bunker. Maybe nest time, OK?

    Off to read that article.

  7. Hi Stella, We've been having lots of really loud boomers lately but Mom tries to make them fun times. She turns the music up loud and gets out treats for everyone. If the TV man says to go to the safe place we all go to the closet in the basement. Then Mom reads to us. Hope the storms go away for awhile.

  10. Oh Stella, I hope that you keep getting better with that thunder. Shyla knows all about fear (although R isn't afraid of anything) so she sends you strong and courageous vibes!

  11. Howdy Stella Up Over, we've come along to support everybuddy and offer any help we can. We don't get scared so are hoping we can help others with the big noises. We like to tell everybuddy the noise is our Uncle Mango, the relentlessly huge, having a romp around at the Rainbow Bridge with all our family and friends. Chewing on a bone helps our cousin Jinx too and having the radio on low with some nice music might help too. Hold paws with us if you like mates. We're here for you all. No worries, and LOVE, Stella and Rory

  13. Hello Stella,
Shado here. Wish you didn't have so many thunderstorms. We won't get any until July or August, when monsoons hit. But soon it will be fireworks for 4th of July... and that is awful for us sensitive type. Our neighbors always set off their own in their backyard, and OMG, I think I will die in fright/nerves/tension.
    I'm thinking of you, Stella!

  14. My name is Enzo, and I am a Golden Retriever in New Zealand who lives with Riley (another GR). My mum just found your support group for me - you see I am hiding under her desk, keeping her feet warm, while she types this. Thunder, and now even heavy rain as I know that sometimes means thunder is coming, scares me, where as Riley just sleeps calmly on unless he realizes there is food about. My issues all started when I was on holiday (while my humans were away) and there was a really big storm and I didn't know where to run to. Now I just want to stay close to my humans, and I think they know that there is a big storm coming.

  15. Hi, Stella,

My name is Tootsie, I'm a miniature dachshund, and I'm afraid of thunderstorms. We hike a lot and once we got caught in a thunderstorm up in the mountains of Switzerland. Scary! I wrote about it on my bloggie: http://bicontinental-dachshund.blogspot.ch/2011/10/thunderstorm.html

Thanks for starting this support group. I learned about it from my fur-friend Bouncing Bertie!

Much like my other fellow doggies who left comments on this post, I also dislike fireworks and firecrackers...and 4th of July is right around the corner.
I hope I'll get some extra cuddles!

    Keep on wagging,
    Tootsie
