Long ago, in the Winter Kingdom of Wisconsin, I had to drive out in the country to see some one. It was mostly summer homes and not many people around. My car rounded the corner of the road and went right into a snow bank, deeply! I uttered a few words, then got out of the car, looked down the road and saw a farm! Well, Whoopee. It was a good walk, but I could do it.
Just as I started out, an old, beat up pick-up pulled up. A very rough looking guy got out of it, went back to the bed of the truck and pulled out a big shovel! He never said a word, and started in shoveling. The snow flew!!! First one side, then the other until I could see I was almost ready to go. All the time I am talking to him, I tell him I have no cash, but I would write him a check and happily pay him for what he did for me. No, no,no he wouldn't take money!
As he was getting ready to leave, he finally looked at me and said
"YOU'DA DONE THE SAME THING FOR ME,
WOULDN'T CHA?"
I said, sure I would have and I am more thank grateful! But what was really going on in my mind is that I would have passed him up like a dirty shirt. But God Love Him, all these years later, I still think about him and his kindness. There are angels all over everywhere and we just never know when we will be lucky enough to meet one.
Cheers and hugs,
Jo, Stella and Zkhat
(Stella wasn't there but she would have loved him and his pickup)
I've been blessed with some good samaritans myself. They seem to come along at just the right moment.
ReplyDeleteawww. such a sweet samaritan. thanks for the reminder to look past a rough exterior.
ReplyDeleteDear Friends, momma and dad are from the Midwest and know that you mean LOTS of snow and that your Angel must have worked VERY hard to get you unstuck. We thank you for sharing this story that etched itself in your memory because it reminds us that kindness continues to warm the heart long after the immediate impact is gone. Today dad got a new tire but still Felix's generous act makes us smile.
ReplyDeleteAngels appear in all sorts of disguises and help dig us out of all sorts of ditches. Maybe we all depend on the kindness of strangers .
ReplyDeleteThat was a sweet story and goes to show never judge a book by it's cover. We too would have passed him by we admit shame faced.
ReplyDeleteHave a super Saturday.
Best wishes Molly
What a heartwarming tale.
ReplyDeleteIt is often those we overlook that are are the kindess - often because that is all they give
ReplyDeleteThat's a really a nice story. If I were alone, I probably wouldn't have stopped either. One hears so many horror stories anymore. But he was an angel in disguise for sure.
ReplyDeleteWe are SO glad that you told us this story. It PROVES somethingy that we have OFTEN thought... They BEST gifts do NOT come in the most beautiful packages.
ReplyDeleteHowdy Mates, what a wonderful feel good story. Let's hope that kind man had someone help him out too because he certainly deserved it. Take care. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory
ReplyDeleteRandom acts of kindness are the best kind. What a wonderful story and a reminder to us all that goodness hides even under "dirty shirts"! :)
