A Stella Story

Adopting a rescue is a most worthy thing to do, but if you get one that is a few years old, don't you wonder what he or she looked like as a puppy?

I found the above picture in an ASPCA ad and  it made me think that this is much like what Stella might have looked like as a little pup.  The pup sure has a mouthful of teeth, maybe its a grown up little dog, I am not that knowledgeable of what dogs should look like when.

What do you think?  I know it isn't Stella, but just wonder if she might have looked like that.

Stella is slowly getting over her grooming session.  You know of the four hours she was there, she was in a cage quite a bit of that time.  I am sure her memory takes her back to life in the shelter where she spent 3 Months in a cage and she can't imagine what she did to deserve THAT again.  We don't have a cage here (we keep one in the garage for emergencies), and Stella is in and out when she wants to be.  So I have come to think that is some of the reason she has behaved so oddly for the last 4 days!

Or she might think more like she gets more attention, more treats, more walkies when she is looking sad.  Hmmmn, could That be it?

I'll be glad to see that smile back!

Cheers and hugs,

Jo, Stella, Zkhat and Ron

  1. sweet and beautiful girl. i adopted my 2 latest pups from the shelter at about 9 mos. old. sometimes i wonder how cute they were as pups, but i find that age is SO much easier! the 2 before that were rescued off the back road after being dumped and starving. they were also 8-9 mos. old. and the dog before that was adopted at 8-9 mos. old. i see a pattern forming... :)

  3. That IS a very good likeness to Stella, but we think she is prettier.

Phantom hates going to the groomer - he is headed there this week. But Mom talks to the groomer and she schedules him on a day when the groomer isn't too busy. She works on Phantom right away and calls Mom as soon as he is done so he doesn't have to be there too long. He won't let Mom brush him very well this year, so he has to go to the groomer.

Hope you had a nice Mother's Day.

  4. Stella, that looking sad bit, sounds like a great wheeze to me. It's not an expression I have mastered yet (comical or exuberant are my fortes) but I think I'll have to work on it.
    Toodle pip!

    1. Now Bertie Boy, seems like the language is what you are having trouble mastering. We have looked for Wheeze in Scottish slang, and an
American dictionary. Wheen is the closest wwe can come in Scotland << Wheen: A large amount (opposite of tickie)Fuxache, err's a wheen a fowk in here the night!>> Then Wheeze shows up in an American dictionary as << wheeze (hw¶z, w¶z) v. wheezed, wheez·ing, wheez·es. --intr. 1. To breathe with difficulty, producing a hoarse whistling sound. >> So, Bertie, want to give it another try?

      All the best,
      Stella

  5. I've often wondered about my dogs as puppies too--Especially our Wheaten, Charlie who with his one blue eye is so unique looking...But (as you know) I love them at any age and like you especially love to see those smiles on their sweet faces!!

I hope you're doing well, and your week is off to a good start!!

  6. Yes, we think that's just what Miss Stella looked like when she was little. She certainly turned out pretty. We're glad that she's talking to you again. She's too sweet to hold a grudge. Now Zkhat on the other hand...

  7. Maybe Stella didn't like the groomer... we had the same thing with Amie Soto Blossom. Ames would put her feet down and stop when going through the gate... Good enough for me, we found someone else who took a laughing, waggy tail Ames into her grooming parlour.......... Ames always came out reluctantly.... she had a good spoilt time... Stella your a beautiful girl.. tell mom to look around again for someone to make you look like a princes X X X X

  8. We, too, wonder what the rescue members of the WDA looked like as pups...especially Quinn who came with no information at all, not even a name.

YoYoMa and Puff become quite agitated if they have to be crated. Yo was abused in his crate and Puff was a puppy mill breeder. Steve has made arrangements with the groomer to call him (they are down the street) on app't day and he brings one or the other and stays with them so they do not need to be crated. We understand poor Stella's reaction...and her milking it for the maximum mom guilt and treats.

  9. We agree that is probably what Stella looked like as a puppy, maybe ears a tiny bit longer, like mine. She sure has turned out very pretty anyway. What a lovely smile!

  10. Henry was frightened by his first groomer. She was a bit of a nightmare for him. He doesn't mind the one he goes to now.

  11. Stella is beautiful. The puppy picture is probably pretty close to what she looked like. I've had all my cats since they were babies, but if I adopted an older pet I definitely would wonder what they looked like in their infancy.

We always thought Little Holly reminded us of Stella.
In the photos we had she was very young. But had fluffy ears.

  15. I bet that cage time was scary for you. Now use that to your advantage at every opportunity.
