Loving Dogs

The pup on the left is my late dog, Otis the Scottie.  A most rare and wonderful character who was a whole lot like the guy on the right, the late Tsar of the Porties .  After Otis died at age 17, I missed him so much and when I "met" Tsar, I thought they might have been brothers, they were so much alike.  They were both their own dogs.
They did as they pleased, had good manners about things but none the less, did as they wished.

They were both solitary gamesmen, Tsar with his stick and Otis with a favorite ball.  Our pack never got bigger than 3 dogs, and Tsar was one of ten, but that didn't matter to either of them.  They both liked a routine and expected things to happen at a certain time of day.  They both liked to "keep watch", making certain every one in their pack was OK.  Otis never had much faith in my ability to take care of myself, which is why I think he lived so long.

Both Tsar's family and mine were blessed indeed to have these dogs in our lives.  They were both one of a kind and very much loved by their friends and families.  Getting along without them is the hard part.

Love and good wishes to all the loveable oddballs out there who are not much like the rest.  I'm talking about you, Phantom, for just one.

  2. Such a lovely post, Jo. Tsar was such a special boy. And it sounds like he had a lot in common with your special boy Otis. Phantom is definitely an oddball, but a very loved one. Except maybe for mornings like today when he announced the all-clear on the storms at 3:55 a.m. and woke the world wanting to go outside.

Hope you have a good Sunday, we see the storms could impact parts of MN. Stay safe.

  4. Great post! We have had Many dogs - many different breeds also. They are all very different and have touched us in so many ways. Each one had special "quirks" or personality. So many good memories! Thanks for sharing and visiting and your good wishes!

  5. I've had dogs all my life. Some were easier to live with than others, but I've never met a dog quite like Tsar before. He certainly was a thinker and had definite likes and dislikes. He wasn't afraid to let me know that he didn't like something and I got the message loud and clear.

Hurrah for independent 'oddballs'. They make life more interesting.

  8. That was a nice post. I am also one of those oddballs. My Mommy often says she is glad she rescued me cause a lot of people might not have been so patient with my oddball stuff. I had been left at many shelters until my family found me. There is a place for all of us and we are lucky pups.

  9. I just love reading about Otis. It seems he shared so many characteristics with dear old Hamish, who was also very much his own dog.
    Cheers, Gail.

  10. What a wonderful post. Otis sounds very special, for being an oddball and for watching for you. I am so sorry for Sue and her pack about the loss of Tsar. It hits close to my heart, especially now.

  11. Hi Jo, what a lovely post. What a great age for Otis to reach. You were very lucky to have him to love for so long. These dogs sure do fill our hearts with love don't they? Couldn't live life without them that's for sure. No worries, and love, Carol
